Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan Provider Additional Sessions

A series of follow-up session have been designed for participants in the 2006 and 2007 CNMP provider Classes offered in Lima and Bluffton, Ohio. Classes are intended to provide additional information on specific topics related to the development of a CNMP and the information needed for data entry into the Manure Management Planner software. Registration can be made on line at Registration Page Deadlines are noted in announcement below. You may register for one or several of these meeting to meet your needs. Due to facility size and for a better hands-on learning environment, class sizes are limited. Computers will be available for Session 1, 2 and 4. You may bring your laptop to all sessions and it would be highly suggested for Session 3.

Session 1) AWM Software

February 7 
9:30 am –Noon
Registration by 2/5/08
Limit 24 participants

AWM is a planning/design tool for animal feeding operations that can be used to estimate the production of manure, bedding, process water and determine the size of storage/treatment facilities. This session will use of the program, input data and use of the output in CNMP planning.

Session 2) MMP Software

February 20
10 am -4 pm
Registration by 2/14/08
Limit 24 participants

Review of MMP input and output. We will use case farms to go through data entry, techniques of validation and then generation of a written plan. Will use current version of MMP which is Version 0.23 (checked on 1/17/08).

Session 3) Nutrient Planning Course

February 28

Limit 30 participants

Regulations governing nutrient use, use of manure nutrients focusing on loss, testing and practical recommendation to account for crop available nutrients of N, P and K, supplementing manure with commercial fertilizers, manure use on fruit and vegetables plus deal breakers to manure use. Computer and testing tools will be reviewed.

Session 4) RUSL2

March 13

Example farms will be used to work with RUSL2 in determining soil loss potential then importing into MMP.A detailed look at RUSL2 with example in computer lab.

Session 5) Site Assessment

Will be a one day program

We will do a site walk through of a dairy farm looking for all of the factors that would need to be included in a CNMP plan calculations and area that could be change to affect the plan needs.
